Ana Voog Tampon Quote Poster (White/Pink)

In the early 2000s, camgirl and internet pioneer Ana Voog, infamous for being one of the 1st women running a 24/7 webcam (the 1st to do an art-life cam), posted a photo of a bloody tampon on LiveJournal, and the internet lost its collective shit at something so subversive. She almost got banned from the platform, at a time when LJ was really the only/biggest blogging platform in the game and the internet was still crafting policies on what was acceptable online in general. At the time, no one had really ever done that before, and no one knew what to do.

Nowadays, you'd just be banned without warning or recourse if you posted a bloody tampon on Instagram, probably on the 1st offence, but back then there was quite the discourse within the LiveJournal community, and greater internet, about how periods are still a taboo women's health issue, about how it wasn't porn, or nudity, or obscene, and how menstrual blood is the only kind of human blood that isn't shed by some form of violence.

This quote was said to me by Ana Voog on November 22nd, 2013, when we were discussing the incident in hindsight. Now you can have her brilliance on your wall!
